Everyday intimacy
Make the transition from busy to present
An evening does not have to carry the whole weight of your relationship.
Notice the transition you are asking for
Moving from work, caregiving, or a long commute into time together can feel abrupt. Instead of expecting immediate closeness, talk about how each of you likes to arrive. One person may want to share the day; another may need a little quiet first. Neither preference has to become a verdict on the relationship.
Choose an ordinary ritual
Try a short walk, making tea, or putting phones away during a meal. Choose something you would enjoy even if nothing else followed. A ritual becomes less welcoming when it carries an unspoken obligation. Keep the purpose clear: a small opportunity to spend time together.
Check whether it still fits
Your routine can change with your schedule or energy. If it begins to feel like another assignment, make it smaller or try a different time. Ask what felt good and what felt awkward. Intimacy can include affection, attention, humor, and conversation; you do not need to turn every shared moment into a measure of success.
